The Board of Directors is pleased to announce Camp Rising Sun’s new host: Camp Timberlake in Millport, Alabama! For one week every summer, Camp Rising Sun takes over the entirety of Camp Timberlake’s campgrounds. That’s right- we have the lake, cabins, pool, arcade, massive dining hall, craft barn, zip-line, and ropes course all to ourselves!!!! Our Facilities
The Lake
Camp Rising Sun hosts a large lake that is perfect for canoeing, kayaking, and water sports! The lakefront is carefully monitored by certified lifeguards and lifejackets are required.
The Ropes Course
The zipline has always been a camp favorite, but now Camp Rising Sun is able to offer a 40 foot rockwall with a large zipline through the forest! If that’s not enough of an adrenaline rush, take a spin on the Vomit Comet- a massive slingshot that rockets campers back and forth over the trees. Get a little sick just thinking about it? We also have both high and low ropes courses for a fun and less-dizzying adventure.
The Chicken Coop
Cluck up some creativity with kooky Paula in our craft barn. Fondly dubbed “The Chicken Coop”, campers are free to join guided arts & crafts demonstrations or follow their own inspiration. In between activities, the Chicken Coop is the perfect place to cool down & relax with friends.
The Pool.
The saltwater pool is the perfect place to cool off during down time. It’s conveniently located next to the gym and is surrounded by pool chairs and picnic tables.
The Cabins
With over 12 camper cabins, 2 speaker cabins, a tree house cabin, 4 hotel-style rooms for directors, and a retreat center, Camp Timberlake sleeps 264 people. Camp Rising Sun makes the most of these comfy spaces for the entire week we are there. Every camper will have his or her own bed in a comfortable, air-conditioned room. The cabins are the perfect places for groups to bond with their fellow campers!
The Dining Hall
Between endless activities and hanging with friends, campers and counselors alike are bound to get hungry! Camp Rising Sun’s wonderful kitchen staff work tirelessly to whip up meals and snacks. Our new dining hall is the PERFECT place for every camper & volunteer to gather three times a day to fellowship, sing silly songs, and enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal.
