Doctor Joe Butler - Physician

Joe Butler began volunteering with Camp Rising Sun as an overnight counselor in 2012 while he was a student at Mississippi State University. He graduated in 2013 with a degree in biological sciences. Joe completed his medical doctor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2017, specializing in Emergency Medicine. He completed his residency training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Emergency Medicine and graduated in 2020. Joe is currently an attending emergency physician at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS.

Joe's favorite part about camp is the pranks, outdoor events and games, and the lifelong friendships that are made each year.

Doctor Lisa Elgin - Nurse Practitioner

Lisa Elgin first came to Camp Rising Sun as a nurse in 1995 and has been an essential part of the Camp Rising Sun medical staff since that first year. She has served on the Camp Rising Sun Board of Directors since 2010 and is responsible for all things medically related to Camp Rising Sun. Lisa holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from University of Alabama and has been an emergency nurse practitioner for 23 years. Camp Rising Sun is a family affair - her husband and children help set-up and break-down camp, and her daughter, Layne, also serves as an overnight counselor.

Her favorite part of camp is taking care of the minor medical emergencies – it is amazing what information a person can gather when taking care of bug bites and sun burns!

Dr. Nina Sublette

Doctor Nina Sublette - Nurse Practitioner

Dr. Nina Sublette earned her BS in Education from The University of Tennessee at Martin and her BSN from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Her graduate education includes a Master of Education from The University of Memphis, Master of Science in Nursing from The Mississippi University for Women, and Ph.D. from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Dr. Nina Sublette has practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner for 15 years and currently provides obstetrical care to HIV-positive women in Memphis, Tennessee. She has an appointment as a faculty member in the College of Medicine at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Jordan Hudson - Nurse Practitioner

Jordan is a Columbus native, but has lived in Ft. Benning, Georgia and Heidelberg, Germany. She moved back to Columbus in 1999 and graduated from New Hope High School in 2002. She holds a Bachelors and Masters of Nursing from the University of Alabama. Jordan obtained a Post Masters Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from the University of Massachusetts in Boston and is the owner of Caledonia Community Clinic in Caledonia, MS. Having attended Camp since 2014, Jordan joined the board in 2018 and serves as Assistant to the Camp Director. She is also member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church where she co-teaches the youth Sunday school class. Jordan has 2 dogs, Jed and Rudy, and is an avid fan of the Crimson Tide.

Madison Ford - Nurse Practitioner

Madison Ford is a Camp Rising Sun nurse and day volunteer. An alumna of Mississippi State University and Mississippi University for Women, she has served as an ER nurse since 2015 and a travel nurse since 2018. In 2020, Madison graduated from University of South Alabama with a Masters of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner / Emergency Nurse Practitioner) . She works as a Nurse Practitioner at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. She will graduate with her doctorate in May 2022.

Madison has served as a lifeguard at Camp Rising Sun since 2011. Her favorite parts of camp are the talent show and the waterfront.

Nurse Kristen Miller

Kristen Miller has volunteered at Camp Rising Sun since 2018. She serves as an in-cabin overnight counselor and doubles as a nurse. In 2015, Kristen graduated with a B.S. in Nursing from Auburn University. After working as a nurse in the ICU, she decided to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist. In December of 2021, Kristen will graduate from the Nurse Anesthesia Program at the University of Southern Mississippi with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. Afterwards, she’ll be working in Fort Pierce, Florida as CRNA.

Kristen thinks her campers are the most talented, entertaining, and hilarious people she’s ever met!

Nurse Spencer Hanskiewicz

Nurse Spencer Hanskiewicz

Spencer Hanskiewicz holds a BSN from the University of North Alabama. He holds certificates in BLS, ACLS (advanced cardiac life support), PALS (pediatric advanced life support), NRP (neonatal resuscitation protocol), TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course). Spencer is currently a travel nurse with experience in a level three trauma center and has worked in Alabama, Georgia, and Washington, all within an ER setting. Spencer joined Camp in 2004. He attended as a camper for 8 years then started volunteering in 2011. Spencer has been an overnight volunteer 8 years, serving as a cabin counselor.
